Portsmouth Match Report

Newport kicked off attacking the Allotment end and it was obvious from the opening minutes that Jamal Lowe on the right would cause the Newport defence problems throughout the evening. Gary Streeter produced a good save from a free kick by Milan Lalkovic on the edge of the penalty area.

Portsmouth took the lead after 14minutes. Milan Lalkovic played the ball down the left before cutting in and driving a low shot into the corner of the net from an acute angle. Gary Streeter produced another good save to deny Ben Close.

Newport’s best move on 29 minutes emulated from a poor clearance from Alex Bass and finished when Mark Taylor’s shot inside the penalty area was blocked. From the resultant corner Scott Sampson forced a fingertip save from Alex Bass.

Portsmouths second goal came on 31 minutes when Jamal Lowe reacted quickest to a Milan Lalkovic shot which struck the post then the keeper.

Gary Streeter continued to frustrate Portsmouth, saving well from Ben Close and Curtis Main before a close range shot from Jemal Lowe rattled the crossbar.

On 38 minutes the home defence was dispossessed by Ben Close who passed to Nicke Kabamba. From 15 yards out he spun and drove the ball into the net.

The crowd was then treated to a spectacular fourth goal by Nicke Kabamba who rifled the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Newport had defended valiantly during the first half but the pace of the Portsmouth attack was proving difficult.
