About an hour before kick off the heavens opened and the rain continued until well after the match ended.
Conditions underfoot were slippery and several players from both sides took a little while to adjust to the fast paced game.
Newport opened the brighter with efforts from Mark Taylor and a Charlie Urry header just tipped over by the visiting keeper. Jack Webber the Ringmer centre forward was also causing problems in the home defence shooting just wide and then bringing out a brave save from Gary Streeter.
The match was fairly even for the first 30 mins but was to turn shortly afterwards when the Port were awarded a penalty for shirt pulling. Ringmer argued that both players were equally at fault but Aiden Sainsbury stepped up to drive the ball into the corner of the net.
On 44 mins Newport were forced into a substitution under the referees instruction and Darren Powell replaced Ollie Wilson.
Half Time: Newport 1 Ringmer 0
Newport made a further substitution at half time bringing on Jared Wetherick for Jake Ballantyne
Gary Streeter was called into action straight away when once again he had to dive at the feet of a Ringmer forward to bravely grab the ball.
The Port were given a warning on 63 mins as Alex Saunders wriggled into the box but shot straight at Streeter.
A minute later and the same player was unmarked at the back post and his shot was deflected past Streeter into the net.
Within five minutes Newport were back in front as Jared Wetherick held off three defenders and placed the ball past Hutchins in the Ringmer goal.
Ringmer had one more attack when Will Quigley was required to clear the ball off the line but The Port were able to hold on for a confidence boosting win.
