The Port crash out of the FA Cup

The Port crash out of the Emirates FA Cup following a replay against Guildford City FC which was hosted at Goldalming Town FC.

Guildford took the lead 4 minutes into the game when striker Dan Stewart found his way easily behind The Ports defence. Stewart closed in on goal chipping the ball perfectly into the 6 yard box which found the head of his team mate. An easy header saw Guildford 1:0 up.

Guildford looked more dominant than Newport playing the ball easily around the park which Newport were at times chasing shadows.

The Port could not find a way through the strong defence of Guildford and unable to create any chances on goal to test Guildford’s keeper and captain Luke Badiali.

Guildford settled a comfortable lead 7 minutes before half time with a second which was saw Newport having to climb a mountain going into the second half.

The start of the second half didn’t look any easier for Newport to stay in the game or even pull back a goal as Guildford settled back into the game.

Newport were unable to create anything or test their opponents goal keeper however the game started to get heated with players from both sides flaring up at each other.

Guildford’s striker Dan Stewart took hold of the ball on 75 minutes hitting a perfect left foot curling shot from the edge of The Ports 18 yard box. It was inch perfect floating the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal leaving Gary Streeter no chance of keeping the ball out. Guildford 3:0.

The last 15 minutes saw Newport unable to build up any play or keep a sustained period of possession. Guildford continued to press right up until the final whistle comfortably knocking Newport out of the 2017/18 Emirates FA Cup.

Newport’s next home game is away to Bournemouth Poppies on Saturday 19th August in the Sydenhams Wessex Football League Premier Division where The Port will be wanting a much needed victory to boost the squads confidence.
