1st team manager steps down

Following Newport’s 2 nil defeat to Cowes Sports FC on Monday (28th Aug) first team manager Andy Sampson has informed the club that he will be standing down from his role with immediate effect.

Andy Sampson was appointed first team manager at Newport IW FC back in 2015 whereby Andy went on to secure two IW Senior Gold Cup’s, runners up in the Sydenhams Wessex Football League Cup in the 2015/16 season and secured The Port a place in the last 16 of the FA Vase during the same season.
The Port have picked up 4 points from 5 games so far this season with back to back defeats to Andover and Cowes Sports. They were also knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup Extra Premlinary Round replay away to Guildford City FC with a 3 nil defeat away from home.

Chairman Stuart Ross said “On behalf of Newport IW FC we would like to thank Andy Sampson for his time, dedication and commitment to the club. Andy has been a leader throughout his time as first team manager, I know the whole squad are grateful for the opportunities that Andy has given them. We wish Andy all the very best of luck for the future.”

The club will now look to appoint a new permanent first team manager to succeed Andy Sampson.

Senior players Gary Streeter and Darren Powell will take over the responsibility for the team for the next few matches. First team coach Andy North will continue to work with the squad fitting in with his other coaching committments.

The Port travel away to Brockenhurst FC on Saturday 2nd September for a 3pm kick off.
