Brockenhurst 3-0 Newport

Newport fell to their third successive league defeat against Brockenhurst today. For most of the match play was evenly contested on a pitch bathed in late summer sunshine.
The new managerial team of Gary Streeter and Darren Powell gave debuts to Jacob Reynolds and Tony Potts. As Emerson Tattersall and Jared Wetherick were suspended.
Brockenhurst scored first after only seven minutes from a free kick inside the centre circle. The ball appeared to be going out of play behind the goal but Matt Burt kept it in and as the Newport defence stood still played it back to Aaron Dunne who fired into the net from about 10 yards.
Newport’s best chance of an equaliser came two minutes before half time when from 25 yards Mark Taylor’s shot just flew over the crossbar.

Half Time Brockenhurst 1 Newport 0

Brockenhurst started the second half brightly and Will Tickle had two shots in quick succession although both were off target. As Newport pressed for an equaliser Aiden Sainsbury saw his shot pushed away for a corner by Matt Taylor.
Will O’Carroll produced a good save as Will Tickle fired in a low free kick. Brockenhurst made the game safe on 79 minutes when Will Tickle outpaced the defence to run onto a long through ball and stroked it past Will O’Carroll for the second goal. Two minutes later Newport needlessly conceded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and Mark Barker gave Will O’Carroll no chance as it flew into the top corner of the net.
A better performance than the previous two matches, but Newport still need to convert possession into chances.
