Newport 0 Sholing 1

Newport suffered a one goal defeat tonight on a heavy pitch against sixth place Sholing. Will Quigley returned to the side in place of Liam Newbold in defence whilst Aurele Beya came in for Scott Sampson.
The opening passage of play was evenly contested as neither team could gain any supremacy.
Newport creating some good chances and after 14 minutes Connor Kelly picked up a loose ball and fired in a shot on the run but it was straight at Ryan Gosney. Newport continued the pressure and a curling 20 yard shot from Aurele Beya was well saved underneath the crossbar by Ryan Gosney. Five minutes later Aurele Beya charged through the defence but with only the keeper to beat he shot just over.

Gradualy Sholing started to look more dangerous but were unable to get a shot on target to trouble Gary Streeter. Their best chance of the half came on 34 minutes Dan Mason outpaced the Newport defence but despite two attempts was unable to beat Gary Streeter.

Newport made a substitution at half time replacing Darren Powell with Liam Newbold. The deadlock was broken on 52 minutes when Sholing took the lead.The Newport defence failed to clear a Sholing attack down the right and in the skirmish Marvin McLean scrambled the ball into the net. For a while Sholing subdued Newport but as the match ebbed towards the conclusion, Newport began to exert more pressure. Aurele Beya slipped the ball through to Connor Kelly who cut in but blasted over.

At the other end Gary Streeter was called into action again to deny Dan Mason at the near post. Despite Newport’s late surge, Sholing managed to defend their slender lead to take all three points.
