New Milton Match

Saturdays match against New Milton was abandoned following a serious injury to Newport winger George Holmes and will have to be replayed.

Newport had started the match looking dangerous but on 10 minutes New Milton were first to score when a shot came back off the post and was slotted into the net past the wrong footed Gary Streeter. New Milton doubled their lead 15 minutes later when their Island based player Dan Radford was on hand to score.

On 40 minutes things took a turn for the worse when George Holmes was breaking away with the ball but went down in obvious distress. Physio Matt Ohren was quick on the scene but it was clear that the knee injury required more treatment than could be delivered on the pitch. An ambulance was called and the game halted for half time .

after 1 hour of the injured player being on the ground the referee had no option but to abandon the match.

The ambulance arrived 20 minutes later and George was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Everybody at the club wish George well and would like to thank Matt Ohren, the New Milton staff and the Newport players and Management who assisted George whilst he was injured on the pitch.

No date has been set for the match to be replayed.

UPDATE: George was released from Hospital on crutches late Saturday night. He will continue his treatment on the Island.
