Amesbury Town 4 Newport 2

Newport were beaten 4-2 by league leaders Amesbury Town on Saturday.

Jordan Matthews scored two first half goals to put the Wiltshire side in front 2-0 at half time. Newport felt they could have done better to concede either goals but were happy with their share of the play. Jared Cousins picked up a yellow card.

Early in the second half Mark Taylor was fouled in the penalty area and Connor Kelly scored from the spot to pull a goal back. Newport then had several chances to get on level terms until 12 minutes from time when Jordan Matthews completed his hat trick.

As the game moved into injury time a grandstand finish was ensured as Lewis Wright scored for the Port to make it 3-2 and right at the death Luke Greenaway ensured the home win with a fourth goal.
