Newport slipped to a 3-2 defeat away to Verwood on Saturday in what has been described as a scrappy match.
Unavailability affected several key positions and The Port started with six players aged 18 or under. That takes appearances this season by this age group to over 200.
The opening half an hour was fairly even but Newport found few chances and Verwood scored twice in three minutes to go in 2-0 up at half time.
The second half was more positive with more chances for the Port and on 70 minutes Joe Craig pulled a goal back.
As the Port pressed for an equaliser they were caught on the break on 84 minutes and Verwood went 3-1 ahead. In injury time Jordan Browne pulled a goal back to make the final score Verwood Town 3 Newport 2.
