Newport 3 Andover Town 0

Newport were back at Beatrice Avenue for the second time in a week following the 6-0 defeat at the hands of Sholing.

Andy Sampson made a number of changes to the side who had a hard game in midweek, Cameron Farley coming in between the sticks for Gary Streeter, Scott Barron and Neo Lamb were rested as Spike Pearce returned as captain, Mark Taylor returned in place of Connor Kelly and Charlie Urry came in for Joe Craig.

Newport started well and kept good possession, Mark Taylor narrowly putting the ball wide after a mazy run. Andover were to have some chances but first blood went to the Port.On 14 minutes Charlie Urry dribbled into the box and squared to Jake Wright to fire the ball into the net.

Andover came forward and had chances but nobody was able to put the ball in the net. The Port came back on the attack and almost scored a second as Jake Wright and Charlie Urry combined but nobody was able to finish off the move.

Andover again came forward shooting narrowly over the bar.

The second half started much the way the first half ended although Andover were increasingly getting closer to scoring an equaliser. Newport almost gifted an equaliser when a cross into the penalty area was headed against his own crossbar by a Newport defender. Things changed on 64 minutes when Newport were awarded a free kick just outside the Andover penalty area. Charlie Urry took the kick and the keeper could only parry it into the path of Liam Triggs who buried his header to make it 2-0.

As the clock wound down, Andy Sampson started to make substitutions bringing off Charlie Urry and Jake Wright to be replaced by George Holmes and Jared Cousins. On 89 minutes Newport brought on young striker Bradley Thompson to make his first team debut in place of Jordan Browne. The teenager was to make an instant impact by scoring in the third minute of injury time to make it 3-0 to Newport.
