The second half started much the way the first half ended although Andover were increasingly getting closer to scoring an equaliser. Newport almost gifted an equaliser when a cross into the penalty area was headed against his own crossbar by a Newport defender. Things changed on 64 minutes when Newport were awarded a free kick just outside the Andover penalty area. Charlie Urry took the kick and the keeper could only parry it into the path of Liam Triggs who buried his header to make it 2-0.
As the clock wound down, Andy Sampson started to make substitutions bringing off Charlie Urry and Jake Wright to be replaced by George Holmes and Jared Cousins. On 89 minutes Newport brought on young striker Bradley Thompson to make his first team debut in place of Jordan Browne. The teenager was to make an instant impact by scoring in the third minute of injury time to make it 3-0 to Newport.
