Following the media coverage of the McDonald’s planning application for signage at the new retail park due to be built at St George’s Way, Tony Wake, Director of South Coast Leisure and Chairman of Newport FC has issued the following statement :-
”We are firmly committed to building a fantastic new home for Newport Football Club at WightFibre Park and it is our hope that work on this state-of-the art new stadium can begin in the spring or early summer.
As previously stated, this new stadium is dependent on the creation of a new retail park on Newport FC’s former home at St George Park. This retail development is a complex project but I am pleased to say we are making progress in bringing the scheme – which will create around 200 new jobs – to fruition.
We will continue to keep all those associated with Newport FC – and the wider community – informed of progress as we work towards taking up our new home towards the end of the year.”
